We, the ambassadors, held our own activity just yesterday containing both. I'm pretty sure you can figure out what the theme was...and a word of advice...Mentos/Soda rockets a very real thing. Many people make their way up into Logan canyon, sometimes on a daily basis, but last night, last night was different. 

I have gone into the canyon to go on hikes, roast marshmallows, and even camp out. So why would last night be any better? I mean we had a fire, that is definitely the most uncommon thing that you can do when you go into the canyon. But we had a mission last night, one that would change history. 

Okay. Not really. We did not change history, we just happened to erase some of it. By burning it. 

Late Monday night, I got a call from my friend Emily, and she wanted to let us know, the hubby and I, that the next night they were planning on going up into the canyon and we were to bring anything we wanted to burn. I immediately said yes; I apparently really wanted to burn stuff. 

So. Tuesday night. 8:30 rolls around and we were packing up the trunk full of firewood, tons and tons of paper, t-shirts, snacks and anything else we could think of and headed up Logan canyon. 

And in 10 minutes, we were there. (Besides the awesome fact that we were burning things, the fact of how awesome it is that it took only ten minutes to get to a spot must also be mentioned)

CAUTION: If you get carsick easily, make sure that you either sit up front or in the back middle seat. That there is a windy road, my friend. I also apologize in advance for my camera and the lack of taking fabulous pictures in the dark. You'll get the idea any way. 

We unpacked our stash and got the fire going. 

And in went the paper, the shirts, the many various objects that can only be discussed on a more personal level. (Did I just make that awkward? My apologies) 

It's odd.. For some reason, burning all the stuff that you spent countless hours making (there was artwork, notes, essays, etc.) was really fun, and probably more enjoyable than it should have been, but sometimes, stuff like this, makes life exciting and fun. 

And. Why Not?!? (Take a second chance...Why not, do a crazy dance... -catch that song reference? Anyone? Anyone? Buehler...) Tangent. 

Plus. We told scary stories. Ha cheesy scary stories, but scary stories nonetheless. 

Now, if you guys have not put together by now that I am a huge sweet freak, well, now you know, but you will also know how much that I love to make things in a campfire. Especially s'mores. Tonight though, we actually did what most people might know as campfire banana boats. Or as we call them, Sweet Torpedoes. Either way, whatever you choose to call them, they are delicious. 

You will need:
tin foil.
bananas.
marshmallows.
chocolate chips.
and whatever else you would want to put in to make this decadent treat. 

Basically all you do, is take the banana, slice it down the middle, and then you stuff the mallows and the chocolate in the middle. When that's done, you wrap up the banana in tin foil, preferably not pushing the tin foil on top of the banana, and then sticking it straight into the fire. This is how a lot of people cook tin foil dinners. 

YUM.

So, let's just say, tonight was a crazy success. We ended with tons of ashes, which is suppose to be the point, I guess? 

Either way it was a great night.

The canyon is full of so many adventures and right outside your front door. 

What A Night (at USU Mardi Gras)

Yes! Y'all heard right!

I was going to write a post about my experience at Mardi Gras but I figured that if I could add a little music and actually show you some things about Mardi Gras, that would be even better so here it is!

Got a New Job so I Went to California

Alright, it isn't as bad as it seems.

For the past semester, I have been working as an attendee for USU Campus Recreation. It was amazing opportunity and I learned a lot from working there.

The PR and Marketing director, Cory Checketts, got a new marketing job in Georgia so that opened up the position and I was just crazy enough to apply for it.


The interview? Great but I was so nervous..

The waiting time? Short but even that much anticipation almost killed me! Cory called me and offered me the position and told me that I would jump right into it on Monday!

In celebration of the new job, my fraternity brothers and I took a trip to Orange County, California! It just so happened that while we were there, Sigma Phi Epsilon, our fraternity, was holding a leadership conference in the same hotel we were at and so we decided to drop in and learn from the pro's!

The Carlson Leadership Academy

is put on by SigEp headquarters every year in different parts of the U.S. so all of the SigEp chapters can attend and learn how to be a better leader in the fraternity and in the community!

I was in the recruitment track of the conference where I learned a lot about how to be a better recruiter for SigEp. That being said, a lot of what I learned transfers over to being a better recruiter as an ambassador as well so I took a lot from my teachers and the group I was apart of!

You wanna know how I know that Carlson really worked? Because I was so excited to get back to USU and be a better leader!

I know this doesn't really connect to USU very much but this trip was one of the many examples of leadership opportunities organizations wiithin USU have to offer!

At the conference, we spoke a lot about Greeks on college campuses and how people assume that anyone with some funny letters on their clothes is the worst kind of college student. I can't speak for all Greek campuses but here at USU, the SigEp and the rest of the Greek organizations here on campus are respectable, service-oriented, awesome, fun, cool, charming, beautiful, and smart group of people I have ever met.

This conference was just what I needed to start this new semester. It also helped that I was able to get away from the Logan cold and head to California for the weekend!

SK80S WITH MA LADIES!!! 

My out of control, mess of curly hair has never felt more accepted than at 80s night. On the real 80s night is pretty much my element..the dressing up crazy & listening to sick music part, the actual skating aspect not so much.. Guys some day I will get the hang of it. This was only my second time skating, but I plan on being a regular at sk80s from now on!
